Safeguarding

Our commitment

The care and protection of children, young people and adults is the responsibility of everyone. We commit to:

  • Promoting a safer environment and culture

  • Safely recruiting and supporting all those with any responsibility related to children and vulnerable adults

  • Responding promptly to every safeguarding concern or allegation

  • Caring pastorally for victims / survivors of abuse or other affected persons

  • Caring pastorally for those who are the subject of concerns / allegations of abuse and other affected persons

  • Responding to those that may pose a present risk

Policy

To provide a robust safeguarding environment we adopt the policy, procedures and training of one of our long term partners, St Marys with Sale West Community Church, Ashton on Mersey. We have adopted the Church of England House of Bishops Safeguarding Policy for children, young people & adults. See the Parish Safeguarding Handbook at:

For children we also adopted the St Mary's Junior Church code of conduct to be used alongside the national guidelines:

The following terms used in these documents are replaced:

'The Church, or Parish, or St Mary Magdalene with Sale West Community Church' is replaced with 'Sale West Community Urban Trust (SWCUT)'

'Parochial Church Council' is replaced with 'SWCUT Trustees'

'Incumbent, or Clergy, or Children’s Pastor' is replaced with 'Chair of SWCUT Trustees'

'Church Officer' is replaced with 'SWCUT Trustee'

'Parishioner' is replaced with 'Any person that SWCUT has contact with'

'Parish Safeguarding Officer (PSO)' is replaced with 'St Mary’s Parish Safeguarding Officer, who also acts as the SWCUT Safeguarding Officer'

'Diocesan Safeguarding Adviser (DSA), Diocese – they provide oversight and support to St Mary’s Church' is replaced with 'For SWCUT the primary support to the Parish Safeguarding Officer (PSO) will be Trafford Local Authority. The DSA may also provide support as appropriate'

'Safeguarding Contacts' is replaced with 'For SWCUT the St Mary’s Parish Safeguarding Officer and Trafford Council are the primary contacts'

'Junior Church, or Children’s Ministry' is replaced with 'All work with children undertaken by SWCUT'

Concerns

If you are concerned that someone you know is at risk of, or is being abused, or presents a risk to others, please seek advice from the Parish Safeguarding Officer or if necessary report the matter to the Local Authority Social Care Services or the Police without delay.
